The currency in Israel is the Shekel (or New Israel Shekel NIS). The current exchange rate is 1 USD to 3.677 NIS.
ATMs ATMs in Israel dispense shekels from your ATM cards (with 4 digit PIN codes). ATMs can be found in the airport and throughout the bigger cities we will visit, please bring a back up card just in case since some ATM networks are more widely covered than others. Please note that all banks charge a fee plus 3% fee on top of a transaction fee. Credit Cards Credit cards are widely accepted in shops and restaurants (except in the casual food stands and outdoor markets you might visit). Please call all of your banks and credit card companies to alert them to your travel dates, as the sudden use can be suspended Travelers Cheques Travelers Cheques the safest way to bring funds with you. While security is generally not an issue there are pickpockets everywhere in the world, and Travelers Cheques are only usable to the person who bought them, and are replaceable if lost or stolen. They are available from either Visa or American Express and can be purchased, usually free from your bank or an American Express Office. PowerThe Israeli power supply is single phase 220 volts at 50 Hertz. Most power sockets in Israel have three pin holes, but most of them will work with double-pin European plugs. Visitors who want to use shavers, traveling irons and other small appliances may need both transformers and adaptor plugs.

Internet- While you are in Israel you will able to check email at internet cafe’s and similar places. There is also wireless throughout the country which you are sometimes tap into. Phones- For outgoing calls the most common and inexpensive method is to purchase an international calling card. There are two two options if you would liek to have your own cell phone. If you currently have a unlocked GSM phone you will be able to purchase a SIM card at the airport. You will also be able to rent a cell phone from the airport if you choose.
