GREMSGREMS is an artist with multiples facets: graffer, graphist, rapper, producer, label director, hyperactive, self-taught … Don’t try to put him in a case, he is unclassifiable, uncontrollable, unstoppable…He likes to challenge the established codes and order and can’t stay still. GREMS carries out two careers in which he is successful and progressively turns out to be a reference: music and design. He first draw in 1995 and made rap in 1998. As a music artist, he started out with the band HUSTLA that he founded with LE JOUAGE. it was ten years ago already. They would make two albums together. GREMS then founded ROUGE A LEVRES with LE 4ROMAIN, KILLERSOUNDS, DISIZ LA PESTE and DJ GERO. The band would release two albums on which the most famous title must be Gash, a stunning featuring with FOREIGN BEGGARS. After three solo albums and many prolific collaborations with, among other artists, WILDCHILD, DETROIT GRAND PUBAH’S, MSAYYID (all of them coming from the USA), GREMS quickly made a name for himself and found his place among the best international underground artists. He also worked with musicians such as JAMIE LIDELL, INVERSE CINEMATIC, OXMO PUCCINO, BIRDY NAM NAM, BEAT ASSAILLANT and toured all around the world: Australie, France, Mexique, Chine, Suisse, Espagne, Italie, Pologne, UK, Canada, USA… Eclectic, curious and open-minded, GREMS is never satisfied with what he already owns and has already achieved. That’s why he is always looking for novelty, new sounds, new styles, a quest for perfection that allows him to obtain surprising and innovative results! He dares mixing Rap and House with notes of Broken Beat and Detroit Techno to create his own style he calls Deepkho, a bomb in the French Rap scene! This forthcoming opus, Broka Billy is the product of a real international collaboration, with songs produced by OPOLOPO (Sweden), SIMBAD (UK), MACHINEDRUM (USA), SON OF KICK (UK) and DER DEZENTE (Germany). More than a simple album, it’s a musical revolution, a new mixture named BROKA, somewhere between Broken Beat and French Rap. To symbolize what appears as a turning point in his career, GREMS decided to add MIKI, contraction of his own first name, to his stage name, and thus showed the obvious: a complete implication in his own art. As a Design artist, MIKI GREMS holds a degree from the school Les Beaux Arts de Bordeaux that he entered without being asked for the degrees usually required since his natural talent prevailed. When it comes to Contemporary Art, he enjoyed help and advice from his masters and friends Juli Susin & Véronique Bourgoin. He now makes exhibitions in the whole world: Georges Pompidou and Lazy Dog in Paris, Laboratori Arte Alameda in Mexico, Parcour Gallery in Pekin, Stolen Space in London… In 2007, he made the advertising campaign Imagin’R for the RATP and then collaborated with many prestigious brands such as Nike, Artoyz, Ascics, Oxbow, Six Pack. You could see his work on the covers of magazines: Graffity Art, L’Humanité, DJ Broadcast, Blogmag, Voice. In 2009, he did three watches for a collection of the brand Swatch as well as the limited edition watch for the Club Swatch. And it’s finally last December that he released his first book, a very personal autobiography, richly illustrated with his first pieces of Art for the artistic underground. There you could find all his work ever since he first grabbed a pen: graffer, graphist, designer. A collection allowing us to penetrate the mystery in which MIKI GREMS is wrapped and to explore a musical and artistic career more than atypical, with an original page set and a true sincerity. |
